In the Callejon de Huaylas, dazzling Valley nestled between two mountain ranges, the
White Cordillera
and
Black Cordillera, picturesque and peaceful cities like Recuay, Carhuas, Yungay, and Caras, while the active city of Huaraz, capital of Ancash extends. It is the urban and commercial centre of the area.
The Department settled the Chavín culture between the years 1200 and 200 BC, which left as a legacy the impressive archaeological site of Chavín de Huántar, declared Cultural patrimony of the humanity by UNESCO in 1985.
Throughout the entire area can occur the spectacular snow-covered, including the Huascaran (6768 msnm), the highest peak of
Peru. In addition to hot springs and spectacular lagoons as the Llanganuco, the area is ideal for practicing adventure sports such as canoeing, mountain climbing, bicycle of mountain or trekking.
The Huascarán National Park, declared Natural patrimony of the humanity by UNESCO, holds in its beautiful scenery to wildlife such as the Condor, the vicuña, deer, puma, the Andean Fox and the vizcacha.
