more »The Department of La Libertad presents a relief ranging from the coast, passing through the mountain range (Andes) of Otuzco, Julcán and Santiago de Chuco, up to the high forest (Amazon) on the border with San Martín. The coastline has beaches and fertile valleys very important to national agricultural production.
Trujillo, capital of the Department, is known as the city of eternal spring for its privileged climate and festive atmosphere. The area was inhabited by two important civilizations of the ancient Peru, Mochica and Chimu and, subsequently, was an important colonial city. Among its many archaeological attractions is Chan Chan, the Citadel of mud in America and ancient Chimú capital, declared Cultural patrimony of the humanity by UNESCO in 1986.
Also important are the impressive Huacas of the Sun and Moon built by the Moche, which measure more than 20 meters; and the El Brujo complex, adorned with impressive figures of warriors and dancers. The city also has a splendid colonial architecture which includes the Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, the Church of the Company, the monastery of El Carmen and colonial houses.
15 Minutes from the town is the seaside resort of Huanchaco with its reed horses , light boats that ply the seas since the time of the Moche and Chimu, and where you can enjoy an exquisite meal based on fresh fish and seafood or simply, to enjoy a day at the beach.
La Libertad is located on the North coast of Peru. To the North it is bordered by the Department of Lambayeque; to the South with the Department of Ancash and the Department of Huánuco; to the East, with the Department of San Martín and the Department of Cajamarca; on the West by the sea of Grau. As oasis in the desert, its coastal valleys are fertile, as well as the inter-Andean. This Department extends to the East, with territories bathed by the River cashew. Its beaches also have a wealth of marine due to the Humboldt Current or Peru Current. In addition, La Libertad is the only Department of Peru covering the 3 natural regions, Costa, Sierra and Selva, and exit to the sea.
