It is a department mainly coastal and nice, although it is part of the Cordillera de los Andes. It is bordered on the North by Lima, on the South by Arequipa region; to the East by the departments of Huancavelica and Ayacucho ; on the West by the Pacific Ocean. Due to its strategic location it is an exit door to the coast production departments of Cusco, Huancavelica and Ayacucho.
